Corrections Policy

A correction addresses a factual error that could materially affect a reader’s understanding. Typographical, formatting, or clarity edits that do not change meaning may be made without a correction notice.

New information added to a developing story may be identified as an update rather than a correction.

We compare the concern with the published text and available primary or credible sources. We may contact the requester for evidence or clarification.

Submitting a request does not guarantee a change, but legitimate concerns are evaluated on their evidence rather than the identity of the requester.

When the CMS records a material correction, the article displays a public correction note and the date it was recorded. Public update notes explain significant additions that are not corrections.

We do not use a new publication date to make old reporting appear newly published. Material public changes may update the article’s modified date.
